It is 4am. A battle between body and brain has commenced. Brain has started winding up for the day with thoughts, plans, ideas, to-do list all taking shape.
It is 4.15am. Body says stay in bed. It is warm and snuggly here. Quickly I return my now cold hands back under the covers.
Brain verses body.
Why so early? Why am I awake? The alarm is not due for another hour. An hour of sleep lost to a brain that refuses to hit the snooze button. A brain that once awakened from its slumber, fires up quickly and boldly takes me on the days journey before my feet hit the floor.
This is not the first time. It happens often.
Brain verses body.
My pillow is perfectly supporting my head, my body is comfortably wrapped in blankets and I have no physical desire to arise at this time. However, the brain is saying 'get up' for a new day is here. The call to arise is met with resistance. Instead, I toss and turn trying to deactivate the brain, to convince it that sleep time is still here.
It is 5.15am. Alarm sounds.
That hour of lost sleep is lost. Time gone and now I have to arise and start the morning breakfast routine. Dragging myself out of my warm bed, feet hit the floor, blurry eyes open and I am greeted by the sound of a starving cat begging for food and two excited puppies dancing around my feet.
The day has started.
As much as I tried to ignore the brain, it won. It took over and kept me 'just enough' awake to wish I was asleep.
However, God greeted me with this sunrise. An amazing burst of colour hit the skies. I looked once and thought how nice this subdued coloured sunrise was and then within minutes, it brightened. God put away the pastels and brought out the full colour palette.
With a splash of colour, He said, 'Good Morning'. He welcomed me to my day, even if it wasn't the start I would have preferred. Even if my brain kicked in an hour too early and I was less than impressed, God changed the colour of my day with His artwork.
Glorious skies, beautiful creation. How amazing is His hand when He grabs the paintbrush.
I hope your day, regardless of how it started, turns out to be an amazing one that is full of colour, excitement, blessings and smiles. God certainly found a way to put a smile on a less than impressed me this morning.
